Flying High

Oasis is aiming high. And how couldn’t it, since it foresees the transformation of HEIs’ educational practices, as a way to reinforce students’ initiatives and entrepreneurship. Not an easy task certainly, as nothing worth in our very complicated lives is. The project does not solely aim on introducing fresh educational practices, but doing so with Open Science being the main focus of the whole process.

Open Science represents a new approach to the scientific process, based on cooperative work and new ways of diffusing knowledge by using digital technologies and new collaborative tools. Simply put, Open Science not only supports free, digital access for all, with no restrictions, regarding the primary outputs of publicly funded research, publications and research data alike, but it goes beyond that; OS is about extending the principles of openness and access to the whole research cycle, including sharing and collaboration as early as possible, thus entailing a systemic change to the way science and research is done.

Talk About Results

As the projects reaches for the sky, so do the goals that have been set. Five are the project results, that OASIS foresees:

  1. Mooc: a web based interactive virtual environment to support collaboration, communication, networking of students and teachers, professional stakeholders and parents, as well as sharing of educational scenarios.

  1. Marketplace: a web based interactive platform – marketplace – to support pilot activities that will take place in OASIS, the presentation and the exploitation of products, solutions and tools (open source software, open hardware, open data) oriented to OS. Also includes support mechanisms to design/develop of high-quality inquiry projects/products related to OS Education that guide students in innovation and entrepreneurship and engage the local community in open discourse processes.
  1. Pilot Projects: OASIS project will develop several pilot projects to support start-ups/scale-ups and utilize testbeds. Pilot projects are tangible examples for the use of open science in areas such as smart cities, e-health, smart agriculture, aimed at both students and young early-stage entrepreneurs The topics of each pilot case study are societal relevant, solving challenges in an innovative and inclusive way. Co-creation approach gives the opportunity for the OASIS partners to widen the impact of their research towards several stakeholder groups, the regional and local ecosystem.
  1. Skills Matchmaking: matchmaking web based platform which offer upskilling and reskilling paths to a best fit job demand for users/students. Thus, a complete digital, highly interactive educational environment will be offered to the educational community for the purposes of the project.
  1. community of practice: The OASIS community of practice will be a web based collaboration platform, the space where people with similar skills, interests and concerns, gather to empower/support, connect, share knowledge and spread ideas. In addition OASIS community of practice focus on sharing best practices and creating new knowledge to advance a domain of professional practices. OASIS community of practice is an important activity in the project providing five critical functions  Educate, Support, Cultivate, Encourage and Integrate.
